Villa Pamphili

I Pamphili sono una delle più illustri delle famiglie nobili romane, la cui storia è strettamente intrecciata con la politica pontificia del XVI e XVII secolo.

Tra i membri della famiglia figurano un Papa (Innocenzo X, 1644-1655) e quattro cardinali.

Tra le innumerevoli proprietà dei Pamphili c’era anche l’omonima villa che con i suoi 180 ettari d’estensione è il parco più grande di Roma. Dopo varie acquisizioni da parte del Comune, venne aperta al pubblico nel 1972.

La fontana nella foto ricalca (pur se su una scala più piccola) lo stile di quelle delle regge di Versailles e di Caserta.

The Pamphili are one of the most illustrious families of the Roman nobility, whose history is closely intertwined with the Papal politics of the 16th and 17th centuries.

Among the members of the family there are a Pope (Innocent X, 1644-1655) and four Cardinals.

Among the many properties of the Pamphili there was also the eponymous villa, wich with its 180 hectares of extension is the biggest Park in Rome. After several acquisitions by the municipality, was opened to the public in 1972.

The fountain in the picture follows (although on a smaller scale) the style of those of Palaces of Versailles and Caserta.
