The Fountain of the Bees is located in Piazza Barberini and it is work of Bernini (as the famous Fountain of the Triton). It was commissioned in 1644 by Pope Urban VIII for public use (eg. To water the horses). The water gushing from three small bee (the symbol of the family of Pope Urban VIII) located on the hinge between the two halves of the shell that make up the fountain. The Romans noticed immediately that the bees sucking more water from the tank of the Triton, than it gave back (a clear allusion to the large fees with little benefit to the people) |

Thank you Tania.
I think there are more fountains in Rome and throughout the rest of Italy
Calling by to visit as another Watery Wednesday participant, Roma has so many beautiful fountains.
Hello Lindy, is a bit strange to read a commentary in English by someone who lives in Italy (and not too far from Rome).
Thanks for visiting!
