| L’Osservatorio Astronomico di Roma (fondato nel 1938, nell’antica Villa Mellini), si trova sul promontorio di Monte Mario. Nello stesso periodo venne fondato anche un nuovo Osservatorio a Monteporzio Catone che doveva ospitare un grande telescopio rifrattore. Purtroppo lo scoppio della seconda guerra mondiale mise la parola fine al progetto. Quella nella foto è la Torre Solare, la più grande d’Italia. Nella torre è possibile osservare il disco solare proiettato all’interno e lo spettro multicolore prodotto dalla luce della nostra stella. Fa parte dell’Osservatorio anche un Museo Astronomico in cui sono visibili antichi libri di astronomia e strumenti astronomici del passato, come cannocchiali o astrolabi. |
The Astronomical Observatory of Rome (founded in 1938 in ancient Villa Mellini), is located on the promontory of Monte Mario. At the same time it was founded a new Observatory at Englewood to accommodate a large refracting telescope. Unfortunately, the outbreak of the second world war put an end to the project. The one pictured is the Solar Tower, the largest in Italy. In the tower it is possible to observe the solar disk screened inside and multicoloured spectrum produced by the light of our star. It is part of the Observatory, also an Astronomy Museum where you can see ancient books on astronomy and astronomical instruments of the past, like telescopes and astrolabes. |
